Sr. Data Scientist

Daraz (Alibaba Group) (Aug 2022 to Present)

As a Senior Data Science Engineer at Daraz, implemented multiple projects and improved conversion rate from search. I focus on Natural Language Processing and routinely work with the latest DL technologies and frameworks such as Pytorch, Tensorflow, and Huggingface to drive business through improved KPIs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Expanding and Enhancing Knowledge Graphs for Products (Product Graph)
  • Mining information from huge customer data to find trends in user behaviours
  • Automating the categorization of products into product types
  • Coming up with ideas to use knowledge graph in applications such as search and recommendations
  • Maintaining multiple projects and adding occasional improvements
  • Mining information from user and seller data to associate attributes such as brand, model, and material with product types
  • Training junior team members and boarding them on the projects
  • Communicating across teams to provide support on ad hoc requests that require understanding of the search domain
  • Conducting interviews for hiring new team members
  • Researching new ways to improve search experience and KPIs
Key Achievements
  • Significantly improved search conversion rate multiple times through query rewrite and query category prediction algorithms
  • Added query to category association to present more relevant results to users
  • Created product-attribute data to use in several downstream tasks such as attribute-based filtering and recommendations
  • Successfully delivered multiple projects across the organisation within the deadline

Research Assistant

Lahore University of Management Sciences
(April 2021 to April 2022)

My work at KADE Lab, in the School of Science & Engineering at LUMS, revolved around Knowledge Base Question Answering. Where I worked on answering natural language questions using the Knowledge Base (Factual Data) as the context. Using the transformers-based generation models I achieved more than 88% F1 in the question-answering tasks over chart data.

Platform Engineer

Intech Process Automation (June 2019 to March 2021)

At Intech, I was faced with a rather new technology. I was part of the platform team where I worked on reactJS to implement visual data charts like pie, multiline, pretto, and stacked/horizontal bar charts, using libraries such as E3. The input data was coming from sensors which allowed me to experience the management of a huge volume of data. On the backend, I wrote APIs to send data to the frontend and implemented the testing framework to decrease the technical debt.

Application Consultant

Techlogix (October 2018 to June 2019)

I worked on ETL development and data presentation. As the products at Techlogix had a number of clients, I maintained a central database that acted as an Offline Data Store (ODS). This practice removed the extra load of reporting from the operational databases of the clients and allowed reporting without compromising user experience over the transactional database. Created dashboards over data to present the historical data at detailed granularity.
